In 2019, the AmCham Tax and Customs Committee continued its dialogue with top officials at the tax and customs administrations, providing information on issues that arise from day-to-day business activities but also holding preliminary discussions on major legislation pieces like the Fiscal Package, the Law on Local government as well as other government-proposed changes in legislation. The committee also serves as a resource to members providing training on the latest information from the tax and customs directories.
The 2022 Fiscal Package and the changes it brings were the focus of attention of the Tax and Customs Committee headed by Alketa Uruçi. The committee’s experts paid special attention to the impact that the changes would bring to business operations, listing objections that will be the basis of discussion with the government and parliamentary committees.
The committee meeting discussed its work plan moving forward, making decisions on holding roundtables on topics such as fiscalization, double taxation agreements and needed training sessions for businesses on the latest changes to the fiscal system.
Beyond the Fiscal Package, the committee’s experts discussed organizing a meeting of a group of representatives with the General Tax Directorate, where some of the issues that can be discussed are fiscalization, the Tax Administration’s Central Invoice Platform (Self Care) and the problems that have recently emerged in its use. Another issue looked at by the Tax and Customs Committee was the simplification of procedures for the implementation of tax treaties (direct implementation of treaties by removing the application process with the General Tax Directorate).
