The American Chamber of Commerce in Albania voices its members’ serious concerns regarding recent developments in the country. This statement is grounded in the Chamber’s responsibility to give voice to its membership and bring the issues reported by its members to the attention of institutions and the public.
Ensuring public safety, protecting people, public and private property, upholding the rule of law and preventing further escalation require commitment and coordinated action by the relevant institutions. All stakeholders have a responsibility to act constructively, reject violence and help create the conditions for meaningful dialogue through which legitimate concerns can be addressed through democratic mechanisms.
The Chamber also stresses that the current situation must be viewed in the broader context of the challenges facing Albania’s business environment. For years, the American Chamber of Commerce has actively engaged with public institutions, presenting recommendations and proposing amendments to draft laws, secondary legislation and other regulatory measures affecting the business community. Despite these sustained efforts, many of our members’ concerns and recommendations have not received due attention and consideration. Effective consultation with the business community is essential to developing sustainable policies, strengthening trust in institutions and creating a predictable and competitive investment climate.
The latest edition of the Chamber’s business index, the AmCham Business Index (ABI) 2025–2026, also highlighted the challenges facing businesses, including corruption, monopolies and unfair competition, bureaucracy and the informal economy, alongside a significant deterioration in perceptions of the business climate.
These persistent challenges are now compounded by the uncertainty that has arisen. According to reports we have received, many businesses have suffered damage and disruptions to their operations and have reported feeling that they have been left without the necessary protection from the responsible institutions. Behind every business are employees and families whose incomes and security depend on the continuity of its operations.
Prolonged instability can threaten business continuity and existence, with lasting consequences for the economy as a whole. It is equally concerning that uncertainty over the protection of people and property may undermine the confidence of domestic and foreign investors, influencing their investment decisions in Albania.
The American Chamber of Commerce in Albania calls on the Government, the responsible institutions and all stakeholders involved to work together to resolve the current situation as swiftly as possible. Immediate, coordinated and responsible action is essential to ease tensions, ensure public safety, protect people, public and private property, and safeguard the continuity of business operations.
All political and institutional actors must contribute to this shared effort through constructive dialogue and effective engagement, in the interests of citizens and Albania’s future.
