The AmChams in Europe Conference commenced with a strong emphasis on the importance of collaboration between businesses and governments. The ACE Conference, held in Washington, D.C., marked another significant milestone in transatlantic relations. The event began at the US Chamber of Commerce, with Suzanne P. Clark, President and CEO of the Chamber, highlighting the pivotal role of businesses in supporting governments in addressing pressing issues. This session fostered open discussions among senior officials of the US Chamber on topics such as immigration, energy, and other emerging economic concerns.
During the conference, the ACE team had the opportunity to meet with Marisa Lago, Undersecretary of Commerce, and David De Falco, Deputy Assistant Secretary, at the esteemed US Department of Commerce. These discussions centered on the exchange of ideas and stressed the importance of strengthening ties between the corporate and government sectors. The first day concluded with a memorable reception at the Greek Ambassador’s Residence, providing a platform for networking and further dialogue.
Among the other notable encounters during their five-day trip to Washington, the ACE team visited POLITICO, a prominent source of political news and commentary. In an engaging conversation with Matthew Kaminski, Editor-in-Chief, they explored the intricate nuances of politics as a fundamentally human endeavor.
The team also had the privilege of meeting with the senior leadership of the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM). Judith Pryor, EXIM’s First Vice President and Vice Chair of the Board of Directors, provided valuable insights into financing programs and initiatives aimed at assisting American and European businesses.
Continuing the eventful schedule, the ACE team participated in a compelling debate with Jose W. Fernandez, Undersecretary of the US Department of State. The discussion focused on unity, the crucial mission of rebuilding Ukraine, immigration policies, energy issues, and the transformative Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP). These pressing matters, interconnected with global affairs, ignited a stimulating exchange of ideas.
The next destination was Houston. During the visit, the ACE team had the privilege of meeting William Harris, President & CEO of Space Center Houston. They also engaged in an exceptional conversation with Reid Wiseman, an astronaut who will be part of the Artemis Moon mission in 2025. These encounters provided valuable insights into the ambitious space exploration program and sparked thought-provoking discussions.
Continuing their exploration of Houston, the ACE team visited Collins Aerospace, a renowned aerospace company. This visit offered a firsthand glimpse into the scientific advancements and innovative ideas driving the space sector, further solidifying Houston’s reputation as a global hub for aerospace operations.
