Regional Conference brings together key stakeholders to turn ESG into business value
The Regional ESG Conference, held in Tirana, brought together representatives from government, business, international organizations, academia, and civil society to explore how ESG can become a driver of competitiveness and sustainable development across the region.
The conference was organized by the Albanian ESG Network, AmCham Albania, and AmCham Kosovo, with the support of the Ministry of Environment and Business Magazine Albania as Media Partner. The event focused on translating ESG reporting and practices into measurable value for businesses and communities.
Across three discussion panels, experts from diverse fields examined how regulatory requirements can be transformed into market opportunities and competitive advantages, how ESG strategies can be effectively translated into practice, and how collaboration can amplify the impact of individual efforts.
Opening the conference, Dritan Nako, Executive Director of the Albanian ESG Network, highlighted the growing importance of ESG for Albania’s European integration, business competitiveness, access to finance and investment, and the participation of Albanian companies in European value and supply chains.
The conference also featured remarks by the Minister of Environment, Sofjan Jaupaj, and the Minister of Economy and Innovation, Delina Ibrahimaj, who emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between government and the private sector, particularly as Albania advances its European integration and environmental agenda.
AmCham Albania and AmCham Kosovo, working together to strengthen regional ecosystems
AmCham Albania and AmCham Kosovo played an active role in the third panel, titled “Ecosystems and partnerships, from individual efforts to collective impact,” moderated by AmCham Albania’s Executive Director, Neritan Mullaj.
The discussion focused on how ESG can be communicated more effectively and translated into a practical business language for companies operating in Albania and Kosovo. The panel highlighted the need to bridge the gap between ESG requirements and the day-to-day realities of businesses.
Companies need to understand not only what ESG means, but also why it matters for competitiveness, investment, access to finance, market opportunities, resilience, and long-term growth.
The panel also underscored the importance of strengthening Albania–Kosovo cooperation, regional business networks, knowledge exchange, and closer engagement among government, business, academia, and other stakeholders.
Beyond the Conference, turning dialogue into action
The conference also marked the launch of three regional initiatives designed to translate dialogue into concrete action: the Albania–Kosovo ESG Readiness and Competitiveness Program; a regional database on ESG operators and best practices; and a public–private dialogue platform focused on ESG and climate finance.
Another important milestone was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Environment and the Albanian ESG Network, establishing a framework for continued cooperation in the areas of ESG, sustainable development, European standards, capacity building, sustainable finance, and public–private dialogue.
The conference delivered a clear message to businesses across Albania and Kosovo: ESG should no longer be viewed simply as a regulatory compliance requirement. When properly understood and effectively integrated into business strategy, ESG can become a powerful tool for strengthening competitiveness, attracting investment, driving innovation, building resilience, and supporting long-term business growth.
One of the most significant outcomes of the Conference was the signing and launch of three flagship regional initiatives between the Albanian ESG Network, AmCham Albania and AmCham Kosovo, providing a concrete framework for continued cooperation and implementation.
- Albania–Kosovo ESG Readiness & Competitiveness Program,
- Regional ESG Operators & Best Practices Database,
- Public–Private ESG & Climate Finance Policy Dialogue Platform.
Together, the three initiatives translate the Conference’s central message into a practical regional cooperation agenda: from awareness and individual action towards shared tools, stronger networks and concrete public–private engagement.
