The American Chamber of Commerce in Albania celebrated the 250th Anniversary of the Independence of the United States with a distinguished event honouring one of the most significant milestones in American history. The occasion also holds particular meaning for AmCham, which for the past 25 years has served as a bridge between Albania and the United States, fostering stronger economic ties and promoting the American values of free enterprise, transparency, and entrepreneurship.
In his opening remarks, AmCham Executive Director Neritan Mullaj reflected on President Ronald Reagan’s timeless observation: “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction.” He emphasized that this enduring principle continues to inspire AmCham’s mission to advance a business environment founded on freedom, transparency, and the rule of law, while advocating for regulatory frameworks that encourage fair competition, investment, and sustainable economic growth.
AmCham President Grant Van Cleve highlighted the Chamber’s longstanding commitment to promoting the principles of free enterprise, values that have fueled America’s prosperity and continue to inspire innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic opportunity around the world. He also noted the symbolic significance of returning to Harry Fultz Institute, where the American Chamber began its journey 25 years ago and which is home to Albania’s first American school.
“Celebrating America’s 250th Anniversary here, where AmCham’s own story began a quarter of a century ago, is especially meaningful for our organization,” Mr. Van Cleve remarked.
The celebration was also addressed by U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission Kathryn Hammond, who praised Albania’s renowned hospitality and underscored that the occasion represented far more than a celebration of America’s independence. It also reaffirmed the enduring friendship between the United States and Albania and their shared commitment to the universal values of freedom, democracy, and opportunity.
Ms. Hammond reflected on the unique experience of celebrating the Fourth of July while serving abroad, noting that for members of the U.S. diplomatic community, the occasion carries a particularly profound meaning. It serves as a powerful reminder of the ideals of liberty and democracy established by America’s Founding Fathers and enshrined in the United States Constitution, principles that continue to inspire generations around the world.
In the spirit of this historic anniversary, President Donald Trump’s message marking the 250th Anniversary of American Independence resonated strongly throughout the celebration: “The best is yet to come.” The message reflects a shared confidence that the strategic partnership between the United States and Albania, supported by the engagement of the business community, will continue to deepen, creating new opportunities for trade, investment, and economic cooperation.
The evening concluded with a vibrant celebration featuring live music, traditional American cuisine, a performance by a children’s folk ensemble, and a spectacular fireworks display, creating a memorable tribute to America’s enduring legacy of freedom.
The American Chamber of Commerce extends its sincere appreciation to all sponsors and partners whose generous support made this landmark celebration possible.
