For the second consecutive year, the American Chamber of Commerce in Albania welcomed students from the University of Cincinnati, USA, as part of their study tour in Albania, confirming the growing interest of this academic group in gaining a closer understanding of the country’s business climate and its economic relations with the United States. Following last year’s visit, the students engaged in an insightful discussion with AmCham representatives through a series of questions focused on Albania’s challenges, opportunities, and economic outlook.

AmCham Albania Executive Director, Mr. Neritan Mullaj, together with Mr. Kledi Kodra, Treasurer of the AmCham Board, shared with students and faculty an overview of the country’s economic developments, the role of the American Chamber in strengthening trade and investment relations between Albania and the United States, and its contribution to improving the business environment.

During the presentation, Mr. Mullaj particularly highlighted the work AmCham carries out through its committees in promoting reforms and the adoption of international best practices. He emphasized that today the American Chamber represents approximately 270 member companies from various sectors of the economy and remains an important voice of the business community in Albania. Through continuous cooperation with public institutions and international partners, AmCham contributes to creating a more competitive, transparent, and investor-friendly environment for both local and foreign investors.

The discussion also highlighted Albania’s potential as a small but dynamic market, offering important competitive advantages such as its strategic geographic position, young population, competitive costs, and European integration process. Students were introduced to opportunities in sectors such as technology, tourism, energy, and infrastructure. The meeting also addressed topics related to the country’s economic development, priority investment sectors, foreign investor interest, and Albania’s progress in aligning its legislation with the European Union.

An important part of the discussion focused on the challenges faced by emerging markets, including the need for greater regulatory clarity, stronger rule of law, and increased institutional transparency. AmCham representatives stressed that advocating for a better business climate and creating a more predictable environment for investors remains one of the organization’s key priorities.

The University of Cincinnati students’ visit to Albania aims to provide them with a deeper understanding of how social, political, legal, and financial environments influence business executives’ decision-making and how companies navigate the daily challenges of operating in developing markets. In this context, the American Chamber, with its 25 years of experience and active role in shaping policies affecting the business climate, offers students a unique opportunity for direct engagement and learning.
