The American Chamber of Commerce in Albania organized a working meeting with healthcare sector representatives to create a new avenue of networking and cooperation that aims to diagnose and address in a timely manner the issues faced by businesses operating in areas related to the healthcare system, which includes pharmaceutical companies, private hospitals, medical laboratories and others that serve the sector.
The meeting helped to get discussions going on healthcare sector issues and was the first step in officially creating a new working group, which will help to structure recorded problems in order to propose concrete solutions — and to present them to the appropriate Albanian law implementation bodies. The healthcare sector and the whole range of issues that affected businesses operating in that sector — from pharmaceuticals to hospital service providers — is now one of the priorities in AmCham Albania’s advocacy work.
At the meeting, representatives of the healthcare sector companies spoke about the most pressing issues their businesses face. Pricing methodology and best practices in drug reimbursement were at the centre of the discussion. The situation of the pandemic and the significant increase in production costs, followed by a sharp increase in inflation, has placed the pharmaceutical market in difficulties that require immediate attention by the government to find a solution.
AmCham is now working closely with members that are part of the healthcare sector to properly identify their key issues and to develop an advocacy strategy to deal with them.
