A recent roundtable saw Prime Minister Edi Rama discuss recommendations previously forwarded by several chambers of commerce on improving the business climate and strengthening communication between the government and the business community. The American Chamber of Commerce in Albania, through its Executive Director Neritan Mullaj, expressed appreciation for the commitment undertaken so far by the government and requested that cooperation continue at an even faster rate. AmCham has forwarded its own recommendations to the government. They were first published in June 2021 in the AmCham Investment Agenda 2021 document. It believes the implementation of the recommendations will lead to the improvement of business climate parameters. The Investment Agenda is the result of the professional and technical commitment of AmCham Albania’s experts.
The initiative has made it possible to discuss AmCham’s recommendations at roundtables bringing together relevant government officials and the best experts in the field. Several issues raised by AmCham have been positively addressed as a result of these discussions.
During the latest meeting, Ministry of Economy and Finance officials mentioned that the regulatory by-laws relating to the implementation of the income tax draft law will soon be part of the public consultation process. On that topic, AmCham expressed full support for the process as it had been one of its requests since June 2022. Moreover, AmCham emphasized that it is ready to work with the government in the future to address the remaining recommendations, better engaging available expertise to solve the most fundamental issues through legal improvements and law enforcement mechanisms, especially on the anti-corruption program, the public consultation process, investments and the fiscal framework.
