The Radical Collaboration Lab: Rethinking How We Work Together

In a week shaped by policy discussions, investment strategies, and long meetings, something refreshingly different took place at American Academy of Technology Tirana. A room intentionally cleared of screens, presentations, and formalities set the stage for a new kind of experience. No slides, no laptops, no scripted speeches. Participants arrived from diverse institutions, bringing with them different perspectives, priorities, and expectations. Some were familiar with one another; others were meeting for the first time. What brought them together was a shared curiosity: what happens when we set aside conventional ways of working?

At the center of this experience was Fulbright Specialist Warren Yu, in Albania for a two-week program focused on enhancing foreign investment through capacity building in public-private partnerships. Yet, the “Radical Collaboration Lab” stood apart from traditional formats. The event successfully brought together AATT students, faculty, and staff alongside representatives from the business community and civil society in a highly engaging and interactive setting. The networking opportunities created were particularly valuable.

Participants were presented with a practical challenge one that required more than technical expertise. It demanded trust, openness, and effective communication. As teams worked through the exercise, they applied tools such as the “Five Whys,” uncovering root causes and gaining deeper insights. Communication became more focused, and listening more intentional, fostering a truly collaborative environment.

Warren Yu’s innovative and interactive approach to team building and problem-solving was exceptionally well received by all participants, whose feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. His methodology offered fresh insights into how traditional routines can often limit creative thinking, and how alternative approaches can unlock new potential.

“In our view, initiatives of this kind represent one of the most meaningful investments in Albania’s future. The American Academy of Technology Tirana remains fully committed to supporting and contributing to similar efforts going forward”- said Mr. Robert Muharremi, Dean of RIT
